holidays for singles - people choose to travel on their own simply because they prefer to and there are those that have no choice because they’re suddenly on their own for a variety of reasons.
Singles holidays usually arouse a certain amount of amusement from those that have never been on one. They seem to conjure up pictures of the 18-30's age group on boozy beach parties. When actually nothing could be further from the truth provided you choose your holiday with care.
There are a number of holiday companies that do holidays for singles and there are those that specialise in the 55 plus age group.
Some people choose to travel on their own simply because they prefer to and there are those that have no choice because they have suddenly found themselves on their own for a variety of reasons.
My first experience of holidays for singles was some 20 years ago when I chose a Christian Holiday Company that had been recommended to me through my Church. I was divorced and had recently relocated to a new area because of work. None of my friends were available to accompany me on holiday when I wanted to go so I decided to be brave and looked at various singles vacations.
I chose a beach holiday in Corfu that included sailing and water sports. I even booked a shared taxi to take me to the airport so that I didn't feel I was travelling on my own. There was a lady already in the taxi when it arrived to pick me up and as we chatted we couldn't believe that we were actually going on the same holiday.
The odds against that were unbelievable but any christians reading this will nod their heads knowingly. God has a wonderful way of bringing people together.
The holiday was a great success and I made some wonderful new friends which I'm still in touch with all these years later. Since then I have been on several singles vacations and I can honestly say that on all of them I have enjoyed the company of like minded people and I've been places and done things that I probably wouldn't have done had I gone with friends or family. It has actually felt quite liberating.
When you go on holiday with friends or family there is always a compromise to be made. You have to fit in with other people and do things that you on your own wouldn't choose to do. When you choose a holiday on your own you can indulge yourself completely and not feel guilty.
The secret in choosing suitable holidays for singles is to choose a holiday with some kind of activity to it either something that you know you enjoy doing like walking, sailing or perhaps golf or some other sport. Or a sightseeing holiday that has plenty of trips included so that there are things organized for you to do where you will be in a group.
On any of these holidays for singles there is always free time factored in where you can choose to be alone if you wish. Then usually everyone comes together for meal times and some kind of activity in the evenings whether it's visiting a local venue or just joining other members of the group for a drink in the bar at the hotel.
Alternatively you can choose an educational holiday where you are going to learn something new like a new language. Cookery holidays in foreign countries are becoming increasingly popular. There are holidays that include art classes if you've always fancied trying your hand at learning how to paint or if you enjoy good food and wine there are holidays that take you to wonderful restaurants and vineyards.
There are even adventure and discovery holidays if you want to get off the beaten track and sample some local culture. The choices are endless.
Choose a holiday company that specialises in holidays for singles. These companies have everything in place to make you feel comfortable and welcome right from the start. They will have a welcome meeting which will be arranged either on arrival at the designated airport for travelling or on arrival at the Hotel. There will usually be a dedicated tour leader on hand to answer all your questions and organize events and trips.
There will normally be no single room supplement to pay as there is with ordinary holidays if you're on your own. Meals are usually organized where you all sit together so you're never on your own unless you choose to be.
If you're not sure whether holidays for singles are going to be right for you choose a short break that's not too far from home to begin with.
